Beginning in 2026, Florida businesses will have a new opportunity to pair meaningful community impact with a valuable state tax incentive. The Home Away From Home Tax Credit Program allows Florida corporations to receive a dollar-for-dollar state tax credit for donations made to approved charitable organizations that provide housing for families of critically ill children.
It’s important for business owners to understand how this new credit works—and how early planning can help maximize both the tax benefit and the positive impact on Florida families.
What Is the Home Away From Home Tax Credit?
Created by the Florida Legislature in 2025, the Home Away From Home Tax Credit Program encourages corporate giving to charities that offer low- or no-cost lodging for families whose children are undergoing critical medical treatment away from home.
For every eligible dollar donated, a participating business may receive a dollar-for-dollar credit against certain Florida state taxes, subject to program limits and approval.
Which Florida Taxes Can the Credit Offset?
Approved credits may be applied against several Florida tax types, including:
- Florida corporate income tax
- Florida insurance premium tax
- Excise taxes on alcoholic beverages
Who Can Receive Donations?
To qualify for the credit, contributions must be made to charitable organizations approved by the Florida Department of Health. These organizations are required to use donated funds to build or expand facilities that house families of critically ill children.
